Dawlish and Teignmouth, two wonderful locations for railways by the sea. Very often we would take a class 45.."Peak"....hauled train to either of these two towns and spend the day either watching trains, playing on the beach, or as in most times, a mixture of both. If we were in Dawlish we also had the bonus of feeding the local population of swans. Dawlish station had a buffet we would often visit and consume tea and buns to the sound of class 50`s rumbling over head on a busy and sunny "Summer Saturday." Especially at Dawlish, a seaside town in every way, the sites, sounds and indeed smells of kids and sand, ices and chips, diesels and seagulls make for an interesting mix. The trains go right across the sea front - unmissable.
What memories, what trains, even double headed 31`s on a passenger working!
