BILL OF COMPLAINT: Cox & DeWitt against Maranda Swearingin, Jessie E.
Cates and wife Harriet Cates. Alleges the latter are justly indebted on $100 note dated 12 March 1867. At that date Harriet was single, has since intermarried with Jessie Cates. Some years ago, Wm Swearingin husband of defendant Maranda departed this life seized and possessed of tract of land approximately 100 acres in District 10, bounded by Wiley Knight & others where defendant Maranda now lives. Dated 9 September 1867.
TO SHERIFF OF JACKSON CO, TN: Miranda Swearingin by next friend Lear Harris filed Bill of Complaint against William Swearingin for divorce a mensa et thoro on 1 June 1842, lists personal property, requests he be enjoined from selling.
BILL OF COMPLAINT by next friend Leah Harris. Marinda Swearingin about August 1832 lawfully married to William Swearingin the younger in Jackson County, TN, where they resided ever since. She was faithful, he committed adultery, beat, bruised and whipt [sic]. About three weeks ago, he kicked her out of his house and she was compelled to seek protection among her relatives. Six small children, fruits of said marriage who are at her brother in law's and mother. Said Swearingin owns about 300 acres, personal property. They had four children: Lola Marie b. 15 Oct 1920 at Thornburg, AR; Joseph Daniel b. 4 Oct 1925 at Plainview, AR; Orville DeWitt b. 26 Dec 1926 at Kinsley, KS and Joyce Edith b. 11 Jan 1932 at Kinsley, KS. Nellie Sidebottom was my grandfather's older sister.

MOUNDS, Ill. -- Helen Brown, 88, of Mounds died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 4, 1915, in McClure, Ill., daughter of Charles and Maude Jackson Prather. She and Verlie Brown were married Sept. 5, 1931. He died Feb. 8, 1999.
Brown had worked at Lowenbaum and was a supervisor at MAP Training Center in Karnak, Ill. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church, and also attended Beech Grove Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. She was a member of UNRF.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Patsy Brown of Cahokia, Ill.; two grandsons, Michael Brown of Mounds, Steve (Jeanie) Brown of Dupo, Ill.; a granddaughter, Stephanie (Kevin) Rowe of St. Charles, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren, Shawn Brown, Brad (Nicky) Brown,
Stacy (Heath) Williams, Matt (Jenny) Brown, Ben Brown, Michael Ryan, and K. C. Rowe; two great-great-grandchildren, Emily Williams and Summer Brown; a sister, Pansy Fitzgerald of Olive Branch, Ill.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a son, Delmer Brown; five brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill., from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes, Ill.
Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church.
