"The Tower Genealogy", by Charlemagne Tower, page 147.
Isaac Tower, son of Cornelius, removed from Cohasset during the War of the Revolution. He appears to have settled in that part of Chesterfield called the "Gore"; now the town of Goshen.
Isaac Tower did service as a soldier in the War of the Revolution, and was a sergeant in Capt. Obadiah Beal's company, which marched to Dorchester on the 4th of March, 1776. He had previously served in Capt. Job Cushing's company, in Colonle Greaton's regiment. The following order is found among the military records:
Cambridge Camp, Dec. 18, 1775
Please to pay Capt. Job Cushing, in Col. John Greaton's regiment, the sum of twenty-five shllings to each of us, in lieu of the coats promised to us (Inlisted Soldiers) by the Provincial Congress.
This is signed by Isaac Tower, Jesse Tower, Abraham Tower, Levi Tower, and fifty-two others.
From the Hampshire Record of Deeds, Isaac Tower is found to be the purchaser of several pieces and tracts of land in Goshen and in adjoining towns.
----------------------------
Isaac moved from Cohasset during the Revolutionary War. He appears to have settled in that part of Chesterfield called the "Gore" - now the town of Goshen. Tradition in the family is that Isaac's matrimonial proposals were not favorably entertained by the parents of his intended wife, and the record of publishments confirms this statement. In the Hingham records of marriage intentions is the following: Isaac Tower and Mary Sprague...The bans forbidden by John Sprague, who underwrote the publishment as the law directs." This was dated October 1768. Tradition further says that his impediment did not prevent continued proceedings for in the same records, under the date of December 28, 1769, we find that "Isaac Tower and Mary Sprague intend marriage."
This second intention was carried into effect. The marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Brown instead of the minister of the parish where the bride's parents resided which was the custom of the times. Rev. John Brown was the minister of Cohasset where Isaac resided. Therefore we may infer that that the opposing father was not fully placated; but, like many another father, he probably found that parental guidance in matters of affection has limitations.
Isaac Tower did service as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and was a Sergent in Capt. Obadiah Beal's company which marched to Dorchester on the 4th of March 1776. He had previously served in Captain Job Cushing's company, which was in Colonel Greaton's regiment. At Cambridge Camp on December 18, 1775, is a note to pay to Job Cushing the sum of 25 shillings to each of the men in lieu of the coats promised them (enlisted soldiers) as ordered by the provincial congress. This was signed by Isaac Tower, Jesse Tower, Abraham Tower, Levi Tower and 52 others.
From the Hampshire records of deeds, Isaac is found to be the purchaser of several pieces and tracts of land in Goshen and in adjoining towns.
