Herman H. Grimm immigrated from Germany, and since his wife Ellen was born in New York, that was probably where he landed.  Their first child were born in Nebraska and the remainder in Missouri.  Settling in Missouri, he tried his hand as running a grocery store and bakery , but settled on painting and paper hanging, a craft he handed down to his sons and his grandson.  He is buried near relatives in Ashland Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.

The Grimm family about 1905:  daughter Nellie Mae Grimm (Dandurant), son Herman H.,  adopted daughter Irene Flowers Grimm (Hall), son Harry, adopted daughter Viola Flowers Grimm, wife Ellen A. (Schmidt) Grimm, daughter Evelyn Matilda “Tillie” Grimm (Brigham).
