The Historical Society of Montgomery County Scrapbook

This appears to consist of old newspaper clippings.  One of these is a story titled "The Old Danehower House," concerning a dwelling near North Wales that was owned by various Danehowers through the 1800s.  That article notes, "In [1762], on the 11th of December, one David Cumming, yeoman, and his wife Sarah, then owner, sold [the property] to Abraham Danehower (spelled Donehower).  It then consisted of two contiguous tracts of land, one containing 92 acres and 40 perches, and the other 49-1/2 acres, except 5 acres conveyed by Cumming to John Beaver.  The earliest mention of the Danehower name among the transfers of land recorded in Philadelphia is of the date 1756, when we find this same Abraham Danehower mentioned in connection with a tract near the Schuylkill. Abraham Danehower died leaving four sons and three daughters, viz:  Abraham, Jr., Henry, John, George, Catherine married to Jacob Snyder, Elizabeth married to Philip Hurst, and Sarah married to Philip Fetterman.  These granted a release to Henry Danehower, June 18th, 1798, for 135 acres and 140 perches, for which he paid 360 pounds. ...

"The Danehower family are doubtless of German origin. This
Abraham 'Danehauer' (as it was spelled in that language), was
born September 27th, 1722, in Germany, and was the ancestor of
the family of that name in this county.  He came to America
between 1740 and 1755, and lies buried at St. John's Lutheran
Church, of Whitpain.  He died May 9th, 1789, in the 67th year of
his age.  His wife Catharine lies beside him, who was born May
17th, 1724, and died April 22d, 1798, in her 74th year.  One of
his sons, George Danehower, also lies in the same yard, who but
shortly survived his father, dying July 1st, 1793, in his 45th
year.  Another of his sons, Abraham Jr., bought a farm in
eastern Gwynedd of Samuel Evans, just 100 years ago, situated on
the Bethlehem road, north of the Spring House.  This contained
83 acres, part of an original grant of 578 acres from Penn to John Humphrey." --- submitted by Frank O'Donnell, descendant of Heinrich Danenhower.
