"THE HAYNES FAMILY OF NEWBURY AND HAVERHILL, MASS., AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THE REDINGTON FAMILY
. . .
1. JONATHAN1 HAYNES, born in England in 1616, killed by the Indians in Haverhill, Mass., 22 Feb. 1697-8 (tombstone). He married, first, in Newbury, Mass., MARY MOULTON, died 1 Jan. 1674, shortly after her marriage, daughter of William and Margaret (Page) Moulton; and, secondly, in Hampton, Mass., 30 Oct. 1674, by Samuel Dalton, her sister, SARAH MOULTON, born there 17 Dec. 1656. They were granddaughters of Robert Page, Esq., of Ormsby, co. Norfolk, England and Hampton, Mass.
According to his tombstone Jonathan Haynes came to this country in 1633. Tradition states, incorrectly, that he was a brother of John Haynes of Connecticut, who emigrated in 1633, and of Dea. Samuel Haines of Greenland, N. H., who emigrated in 1635. Guy C. Haynes (vide supra) considered it probable that another brother was William Haynes, of Salem, Mass., who was made a freeman in 1648. Was this the William who married Sarah Ingersoll, daughter of Richard Ingersoll of Salem and Ann (or Agnes) Langley, whom he married in Sands, England, 20 oct. 1616, according to Perley's "History of Salem, Mass.", vol. 1, p. 131? This William Haynes died in 1644 and his wife remarried. Perley shows also (vol.1, p. 433) a James Haines (Hynds) living in Salem, cooper, in 1639.
