"Steve Sonntag has pointed out that a name change from Dreiling to Doering is not reasonable. However there is some doubt about August Roman Doering's parentage -- and maybe Phillip Doering is an illegitimate son of Johann Peter Dreiling. Perhaps this dark note was passed on to August Roman Doering. Perhaps they were both illegitimate. No one knows who the mother of August was.
