Also their daughter Ann Hill Carter has her middle name being the same as her grandmother's maiden name.
"Shirley plantation is referred to in the old records as far back as 1611, Sir Thomas Dale, then governor of the Virginia Colony. having laid out and given title to the plantation. In 1660 it was granted to Col. Edward Hill, a member of the House of Burgesses, of which he was once speaker. in 1723, through the marriage of his eldest daughter, Elizabeth Hill, to John Carter, Secretary of Virginia, and eldest son of Robert (King) Carter, Shirley came into the possession of the Carter family where it has remained ever since.
The place descended to Charles Carter who married Ann Butler Moore of Chelsea; and their daughter, Ann Hill Carter, was born there. The latter became the wife of "Light Horse" Harry Lee, and the mother of General Robert E. Lee. ...."
