"CAPT. JOHN1 WAITE (variously spelt Wait, Waite, Wayt, Wayte) was born about 1618, ....
He married (I) Mary Hills, baptized in Great Burstead, Billericay, Essex, England, Nov. 13, 1625, died Malden, Mass., Bov. 25, 1674, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Clark) Hills. Capt. John Waite died in Malden, Sep. 26, 1693. Capt. John and Mary (Hills) Waite had 10 children.
JOSEPH² WAITE was of Malden, where he married his first wife, Hannah Oakes, Aug. 7, 1762. He married, as his second wife, Oct. 24, 1688, Mercy Tufts, daughter of Peter and Mary (Pierce) Tifts, who, after the death of Joseph Waite, which occurred in 1692, married Lemuel Jenkins, and she died in Malden, July 19, 1736. Joseph and Mercy (Tufts) Waite had 2 children.
PETER³WAITE, born in Malden, Jan. 20 1689-90, removed to Medford, where Dec. 8, 1721. He married (1) Sarah Pierce, born Woburn, Jan. 22, 1691-2, died Medford, Aug. 16, 1717, daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Bacon) Pierce; (2) Abiagil Pierce, sister of his first wife. ..."

This source dispels the confusion over who Joseph Waite married. There is another Joseph Waite, son of Richard Waite and Mary, who married Ruhama Hagar.

He m. second, Oct. 24, 1688, Mercy, dau. of Peter and Mary (Pierce) Tufts. After his decease she m. June 11, 1694, Lemuel Jenkins, of Malden, and died July 19, 1736. Children:
