This Rebecca was having children by William Bushnell at the time that Stephen's later children were born. Bigamy was not looked upon favorably during these times.

She was the daughter of John STRATTON born 14 Aug 1621, of London, England and Sarah BANCROFT born 19 Mar 1619 of Swarkston, Derbyshire, England. They resided at East Hampton, Suffolk, New York.. Rebecca is mentioned in her fathers Will proved 16 Mar 1685 , "8ly I give to my Daughter Rebecca Bushnell twenty pounds after mine and wives decease to be paid her at price currant in good pay within a year by my Executors" She was married to 17 Oct 1673, Saybrook, Middlesex, Connecticut William BUSHNELL was born 15 Feb 1648 in Saybrook, Middlesex, Connecticut and died 9 Dec 1711 Saybrook, Middlesex, Connecticut. Rebecca by him had the following children (the births so dated) William BUSHNELL and Rebecca STRATTON BUSHNELL had four children: 1st., Sarah (1 Mar 1673/74 -) died young. 2nd., Ephraim BUSHNELL (14 Feb 1675 -16 Jan 1766) was married 16 Oct 1712, Westbrook, Connecticut to Anne HILL (-14 Mar 1689). They had one child, Sarah.
3rd., William (3 Apr 1680 -) was married 10 Apr 1701 at Saybrook, Middlesex, Connecticut to Catherine Jordan.
And 4th., Esther (2 Nov 1683 -18 Mar 1724/25) was married 14 May 1707, Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut to Samuel WILCOX (20 Feb 1684 -18 Nov 1724/25) who was the son of Samuel and Abigail WITMORE WILCOX. Esther and Samuel had six children all born Middleton, Connecticut."
