1Bernard Lee Butcher, Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley, West Virginia, Vol. 1, p. 374 (1912).
"(II) Daniel, son of Thomas Farnsworth, was born in April, 1766, died in 1848, aged eighty-two years. He came to what is now Buckhannon, West Virginia, in 1821, and founded the town. He had traded his Staten Island property for fifteen hundred acres of land, including Buckhannon (except eighteen lots that had been sold), and two thousand acres in Pocohontas county, and brought his family with him. The house they built and occupied is still standing--the oldest in Buckhannon. It is still ossupied by a descendant. A farm was opened up from out the primeval forest and became a valuable piece of property. Politically Mr. Farnsworth was a Democrat and much interested in all public affairs. He married Rachel Stout, born and reared in New Jersey. They had five sons: 1. James S., died aged eighty-five years; he was a soldier in the war of 1812, and drew a pension until his death; he married Abigail Wilcox, of New Brunswick, New Jersey. 2. Thomas, of whom further. 3. Nathaniel, of whom further. 4. John. 5. Isaac. The father, Daniel Farnsworth, was a farmer and stock raiser and dealer, and his sons all settled in and near Upshur county, Virginia.".
