"3. ROBERT2 COE (Robert1), born at Bedford, co. Suffolk, England and baptized there Sept. 19, 1626, was brought to New England by his father in the spring of 1634 when seven years of age, and taken in the successive removals to Watertown, Mass., and Wethersfield and Stamford, Conn. Although his father and brothers removed to Long Island in 1644, he remained permanently in Connecticut, perhaps in care of his father's interests there, some of which were not disposed of for some time. About 1650 he married and settled at Stratford, Conn., . . .

Robert2 Coe died intestate about September 1659, and was buried at Stratford.

He married about 1650, HANNAH MITCHELL, baptized at Halifax,Yorkshire, England, June 26, 1631, daughter of Matthew and Susan (Butterfield) Mitchell. Her parents came to New England with their family in the spring of 1635, and located at Wethersfield, Conn., where her father was a prominent man. She married second NICHOLAS ELSEY of New Haven, Conn., whither she went to reside, taking her Coe children with her; and she died at New Haven, Apr. 2, 1702.

i. HANNAH3, b. Dec. 14, 1651; no further record and probably d. young.
ii. SUSANNA, b. Aug. 16, 1653; d. at New Haven, Conn., Apr. 2, 1746; m. Jan. 11, 1671-2, CAPT. JOHN ALLING of New Haven, b. Oct. 2, 1647, d. Mar. 25, 1717, son of Roger and Mary (Nash) Alling.

"8. CAPT. JOHN3 COE (Robert2 (3), Robert1), born at Stratford, Conn., May 10, 1658, when a small child was taken by his mother to New Haven, Conn., upon her marriage to Nicholas Elsey of that place, and he lived there until attaining his majority.

Capt. John3 Coe died Apr. 19, 1741; both he and his wife were interred in the Congregational Church Burial Ground in Stratford.
He married Dec. 20, 1682, MARY HAWLEY, born at Stratford, July 16, 1663, died there Sept. 9, 1731, daughter of Lieut. Joseph and Catherine (Birdsey) Hawley.

They settled in Durham, Conn., where she d. in March 1758 and he d. in 1762. Children: Ruth, Sarah, Esther, Mary, Phebe, John, David, Hannah, James, Abigail, Eunice.
iv. MARY, b. Aug. 11, 1691, m. Nov. 27, 1712, SAMUEL PICKETT, b. in Stratford, Oct. 31, 1689, son of Daniel and Mary (Ufford) Pickett. They remobved to Durham, Conn., where she d. Feb. 19, 1763. Children: Martha, Margaret, John, Samuel, Thomas, Joseph, Mary, Comfort, Benjamin, Sarah.

vi. SARAH, b. Mar. 20, 1696, m. Mar. 4, 1718-19, DEA. ISRAEL BURRITT, b. at Stratford in 1687, son of Stephen and Sarah (Nichols) Burritt. They settled in Durham, Conn., where she d. Feb. 6, 1731-2, and he d. June 19, 1750. Child: Mary, b. June 12, 1719, m. May 11, 1741, Daniel Merwin, Jr.

viii. CATHERINE, b. Sept. 23, 1700, m. (1), Nov. 11, 1725, JOSEPH FAIRCHILD, b. at Stratford, Dec. 28, 1689, son of Joseph and Joanna (Willcoxson) Fairchild. They lived in Fairfield, Conn., where he d. Apr. 20, 1727. Children: Joseph, James, Mary, Hannah, David, John, Ebenezer.
ix. ABIGAIL, b. Nov. 11, 1702, m. June 1, 1727, JOHN GUTHRIE of Stratford, Conn. In 1735 they removed to Durham, Conn., and thence in 1743 to Southbury, Conn., where she d. in March 1747, and he d. in 1756. Children: John, James d. y., William, James, Joseph, Mary, Ephraim, Ebenezer, Abigail, Sarah, Lydia.
