"(II) Sergeant Eleazer Hawks, son of John and Elizabeth Hawks, was born December 20, 1655, and died March 27, 1727. He is buried in the old burying ground at Deerfield. He was on the committee to set the meeting house in 1701; was surveyor May 30, 1689; selectman in 1691-99, 1701-02-03-06-08-10-13-14-16-23-26. He had a share in the eight thousand acres of land formerly granted to Dedham, May 23, 1723. He was with Captain Turner at Peskeomskut, and came out without any inhury. He married, April 30, 1689, Judith Smead, who died January 27, 1718-19, at the age of fifty-four years, daughter of William Smead. This marriage was the first recorded on the town register. Children: Elizabeth, born February 26, 1689-90, died January 1, 1690-91; Thankful, born February 23, 1689-90; Elizabeth, born January 26, 1691-92, died August 11, 1693; Eleazer, see forward; Mary, born December 2, 1695; Elizabeth, born November 1, 1697; Nathaniel, born October 9, 1699; Sarah, born July 26, 1701; Hannah, born July 7, 1703; John, born December 26, 1693.".
