Scotland (1040-1057), KingOf the house of Alpin, probably the grandson of Kenneth II. He acceeded (~1031) as moarmaer (chief) of Moray province; killed his cousin Duncan in battle near Elgin and seized the throne (1040); defeated a rebel army near Dunkeld, Perth (1045); defeated and slain by Malcolm III.
This is the historical figure upon whom Shakespeare modelled his play Macbeth.
