Wiki: Aaron Burr

Burr was probably a genius. Obtaining his divinity degree at age 16, he eventually switched to law after distinguished service in the American Revolutionary War. Entering politics, he eventually became Vice President of the United States under Jefferson. While in that office, he shot and killed ?Alexander Hamilton in a duel. He is the only Vice President (to date!) to serve while under indictment for murder. He was later charged with treason in a conspiracy regarding capitalization of a possible war with Spain, and was acquitted. On a 1808-1811 sea voyage, on his way to try to spark a revolution in Mexico, he was captured by the British, with whom we were at war at the time, becoming the only ex-vice president to be captured and held by an enemy during wartime.
