- Clara Beranger Comments on "The World's Applause" 1922 interview. "The World's Applause" was probably the first film inspired by the death of William Desmond Taylor, a top Paramount film director in early Hollywood who was shot to death on February 1, 1922. His unsolved murder was one of Hollywood's major scandals.
