Grant, GrauntOrigin
English, Scottish :- Derived from the Old French word "grand", meaning tall or large. The name was given to those who were of exceptional proportions or was used in addition to the first name when different members of the same family were given the same first names, often used to distinguish a younger member from an older one.
- Uncertain etymology. Probably a transformation of Grantham.
See also the more detailed treatment at http://www.clangrant.org.uk/gr_name.htm on Adrian C. Grant's Clan Grant site.
