Eve\Eves, Ive, IvesDescendants of William Ives and Hannah Dickerman. In September of 1635, William Ives shipped out from London, ENG aboard the Truelove, bound for New England. In the years that followed, he married Hannah Dickerman, and settled in New Haven, CT. After Ives died, Hannah married William Bassett and it is from this line that I descend. William Ives is therefore my 8HGGF.
Ives was a signer of the "Fundamental Agreement" of original settlers of that city. William and Hannah had 9 children, and are considered to be the progenitors of the largest IVES family in this country. This family went on to settle in Wallingford and a number of other localities throughout America and Canada. This IVES family has produced an unusual number of noteworthy descendants. As Arthur Coon Ives put it in his 1928 Genealogy of the Ives Family (p.2):
A member of our family was the first explorer of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, one is president of a large insurance company, one ranks among America's best known publishers, one became a member of the Canadian Parliament, one is known for his ability as a railroad builder, one rose from humble circumstances to the office of lieutenant governor, and one--the black sheep--became a famous horse thief and bandit. All descendants of William Ives and Hannah Dickerman are my cousins.
