Rev. Jonathan Odell, A.M., of Fredericton, NB, the noted loyalist, was born 25 Sep 1737 in Newark, NJ; in 1754, he was graduated from the College of New Jersey [now Princeton U.], and studied medicine, but afterward became an Episcopal clergyman; in 1767, he was rector of St Anne's Church, in Burlington, NJ. He was prominent during the war of the Revolution for his sympathy with England, and was joint author of the "Loyal Verses of Stansbury and Odell." In 1772, he married Miss Anne De Cou, who survived him. At the close of the war, he removed to Fredericton, NB, where he was made Secretary of the Province, and held many other responsible offices under the Crown. He died 25 Nov 1818, leaving one son, William Franklin, and three daughters. [Memoir of Hon. William Hunter Odell, NEHGR 46:20 (Jan 1892)]  -30-
