SAYRE, Zelda [1900-1948] -- American artist, dancer and writer

F. Scott Fitzgerald's ¤
"loony wife", a talented and beautiful southern belle,
she married the dapper Fitzgerald at 19.
Together they lived life like a stolen car to the end, hers in a fire in a mental institution.
Diagnosed early on as schizophrenic, she spent the rest of her life in and out
of a succession of institutions, including Craig House, in nearby Beacon, NY.
Although talented in her own right,
her career and works were largely eclipsed by Scott's,
which must have contributed to her mental decline.
