Following a brief attack of heart trouble, Cyrus A. Geyer, former well known
merchant, and highly respected citizen of Adamsville, died at this home in Zanesville,
where he has resided since April, 1923, Friday morning, November 6, 1925. He
had been in failing health for the past two months but his condition was not
considered serious until a short time before his death. He was aged 75 years
and 23 days.
A sad fact in connection with the death of Mr. Geyer is, that three members
of the family have passed away within the last two months. One sister, Mrs. L.
McKinney of New Brighton, Pa., died last Monday [2 Nov 1925] and was buried Friday
[6 Nov 1925]. Another sister, Mrs. Cockins, died at her home in Columbus on September

mercantile business in Norwich, and in 1877 purchased the Henry Roff store and
residence in Adamsville and moved to this village, where he successfully conducted
a general store for more than forty years.
On May 7, 1878, he was united in marriage to Laura A. Gore to which union
four children were born, three sons and one daughter. Two of the sons died in
early childhood, and on July 28, 1889, his loving wife followed them to the grave.
Besides being a successful business man, Mr. Geyer took an active interest
in the affairs of his home town. He was progressive and did what he could to
advance the interests of the community in which he lived. He loved the right
and spoke boldly in the cause of purity in the every day walks of life. He was
kind and generous and was always ready to help a worthy person or a worthy cause.
As an evidence of this helpful and generous disposition he has provided in the
disposition of his property a bequeath of one thousand dollars to the Adamsville
cemetery to be used as an endowment fund for the up-keep and improvement of the
cemetery.
Mr. Geyer was a charter member of Delphian lodge, No. 627 K. of P. at Adamsville,
and the pall bearers were E. C. Jordan, C. H. Hanks, H. L. Hanks, W. A. Roberts,
M. F. Tomlinson and G. H. Shrigley brother members of that lodge.
Mr. Geyer is survived by two children Raymond E. Geyer who formerly conducted
the Court cigar store in Zanesville, and Mrs. Paul Bainter also of Zanesville.
