CATHARINE W. WILKINSON

BELHAVEN - Mrs. Catharine Way Wilkinson, 95 of 403 E. Main St., died Sunday in Rex Hospital, Raleigh. Born Sept. 30, 1896 in Beaufort County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Rowland Way and Mary Eva Blount Way.
Her husband, Ralph Y. Wilkinson preceded her in death September of 1947 and a daughter Catherine Way Wilkinson also preceded her in death in 1955.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Paul Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Fulton. Burial, Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, N.C.

JOHN ARCHBELL WILKINSON
PANTEGO -- Mr. John Archbell Wilkinson, age 91, of 31 Wilkinson Station Road, Pantego, died Friday night at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Hillside Funeral Services by Pastor Reggie Braziel. Burial will follow in the Yeatesville Cemetery.

Oran Benson, James S. Hill, Jr., Dr. Fred Howdy, R. Nelson Jennette, Thomp Litchfield, Floyd J. Jupton, James B. McMullan and Melvin B. Smith will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Wilkinson was born on October 22, 1909, in Beaufort County, son of the late, Samuel Walter and Pattie Archbell Wilkinson. He attended the Pantego Academy, was a graduate of Peddie School, in New Jersey, was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in 1932, and was a member of the UNC Debate team.

In 1936, and 1940 he was a Republician candiate for the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1942, he received the first place prize in the Scribner's Commentator Essay Contest. He servedin the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged with the Rank of Captain.
On August 24, 1936, he married, Beulah Gaither Moore and later was married to Ella Ogburn Rees, who preceded him in death, in 1991. He was a Beaufort Lawyer for more than sixty years having served in the Law Firms of Ward and Wilkinson, Wilkinson and Vosburgh and retired in 1995, from the Law Firm of Wilkinson and Rader. He served as president of the First and Second District Judicial Bar Association.
A very active member of the Republician Party during his career. He was a delegate to the Republician Party National Conventions from 1940-1980; he served as First District chairman from 1965-1969; served on National Republician Committee in 1983-1984; served as General Consul of the N.C. Republician Party from 1971-1973; and was a candidate for N.C. State House in 1966, 1980 and 1982.
In 1988, Mr. Wilkinson was inducted into the North Carolina Republician Party Hall of Fame by former Governor, Jim Martin. He was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge #675 A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post 15.

Survivors include two daughters, Pattie Archbell Wilkinson Brinkley and her husband, Robert, of Asheville, and Peggy Wilkinson Farrell and her husband, Timothy, of Bath; grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Farrell, Andrew James Farrell Nicholas Jefferson and Mary Wilkinson Brinkley and one great grandson, Alexander Jayden Farrell and his caregivers; Frankie Foster, Melvin B. Smith, Melinda Beasley, Linda Moore, Martha Nixon and Kitty Nixon.

The family appreciates the love and concerns of friends and suggests that
memorials perpetuate his memory in contributions to the Wilkinson Church of Christ, 141 Wilkinson Station Road, Pantego, N.C. 27860.
