Mrs. Mary Ellett

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary S. ELLETT, 63, for 37 years a teacher in the Madison County School System, were held today at 3 p.m. DST, from the Gurley Methodist Church.  The Rev. Billy YORK officiated, and burial followed in the Moon Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Ellett died Wednesday morning at her home in Gurley.  She retired from teaching in June, 1957.  She taught at Madison County High School at Gurley for a number of years, and before that, at Lincoln School when it was in the county school system.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

 

Survivors include her husband, W. R. ELLETT; two sisters, Mrs. E. R. STIVERS of Florida; and Mrs. Velma SPIVEY of Owens Cross Roads; a brother, James R. SPIVEY, Owens Cross Roads; an aunt, Miss Nannie SPIVEY, Owens Cross Roads; and one niece and six nephews.

 

Active pallbearers were James R. SPIVEY, Bobby SPIVEY, Benny SPIVEY, Oren SUBLETT, Judson BRAWLEY, Jim BENNETT, Jim ESSLINGER and Blake McMULLEN.

 

Honorary pallbearers were Edward ANDERSON, J. E. MITCHELL, W. O. WOOLEY, Gordon BRANUM, Dr. J. E. CARPENTER, Harry WILLIAMSON, W. R. McKINNEY, W. E. POPEJOY and Austin RUSSELL.

 

Scottsboro Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
