Mrs. Z. R. Maples Passes At Home
Owens Cross Roads Resident Leaves 2 Sons, 8 Daughters
Mrs. Eliza Catherine MAPLES, 71, of Owens Cross Roads,
died at her home there this morning at 1:20 o’clock.
Besides her husband, Zack R. MAPLES, she is survived by
two sons, Prof. E. G. MAPLES of New Market and F. E. MAPLES, Panama. Eight daughters include Mrs. Delilah MOON,
Mrs. Katie WILLIAMS, Mrs. Carrie LAYNE and Mrs. Delia MARTIN, all of Owens
Cross Roads; Mrs. Lucille BOSTICK, Princeton, Ala., Mrs. Fannie Sue JONES,
Woodville, Ala., Mrs. Rubye MORRIS, Huntsville, and Mrs. Kathryn ZEANAH,
Higgins Center, N.C.
Twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren
also survive. Mrs. Maples was a member
of the Missionary Baptist Church throughout her life. Married 53 years, she and Mr. Maples had spent their entire life
at Owens Cross Roads.
Funeral services to be held from the Cave Springs
Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, will be conducted by the Rev.
J. Vernon RICH, with Laughlin-Services in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Moon Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include her sons-in-law, John E.
MOON, Annis BOSTICK, Louis J. MORRIS, Gordon WILLIAMS, Milner H. JONES, Buford
LAYNE and Morris ZEANAH.
Horton WILBURN, Robert H. BAKER, George DARWIN, Ed
BUTLER, Dr. James CARPENTER, Dr. E. V. CALDWELL, Dr. James V. HOLLIMAN, Robert

Owens Cross Roads Native, Dies
Zack R. MAPLES, 84, a retired farmer of Owens Cross
Roads, died at 8:30 a.m. today, following a heart attack.
He was born and reared in Owens Cross Roads and lived
there all his life. At the time of his
death, he was making his home there with his daughter, Mrs. W. A. BOSTICK.
Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. John MOON, Mrs.
Gordon WILLIAMS and Mrs. W. A. BOSTICK, all of Owens Cross Roads, Mrs. F. B.
LAYNE, Mrs. Delia Maples MARTIN and Mrs. L. J. MORRIS, all of Huntsville, Mrs.
W. M. ZEANAH of Titusville, Fla., and Mrs. M. H. JONES of Scottsboro; two sons,
E. G. MAPLES of Memphis and F. E. MAPLES of San Antonia, Texas; 32
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed and will be
announced tomorrow.

Zack R. Maples’ Rites Wednesday
Funeral services for Zack R. MAPLES of Owens Cross Roads
will be held a 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Cave Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Alvin H. HOPSON will officiate,
assisted by the Rev. Wayne CRUBBS.
The body will be at the church for an hour before time
for the service. Interment will be in
Moon Cemetery at Owens Cross Roads, with Laughlin-Service Funeral Home in
charge.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. They are: John W. MOON, James Gordon
WILLIAMS, James Maples MARTIN, Maples MOON, Jerome FOGG, Hammond CARPENTER,
James R. CAMPBELL and F. E. MAPLES Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will include: Dr. James L.
CARPENTER, Dr. E. V. CALDWELL, A. H. ELLETT, Ira TERRY, A. H. BUTLER, Robert M.
