Funeral Services For War Vet

Gordon McGee Buried In Cemetery At Owens Cross Roads

Funeral services for Gordon (Shorty) McGEE, 40-year-old World War Veteran, who died at his home at Owens Cross Roads early yesterday morning, were held at Moon Cemetery at 11 a.m. today.

The Rev. Burns T. DRAKE officiated.  Butler Brothers of New Hope had charge of arrangements.

Mr. McGee had been sick for sometime, but his death was unexpected.

He enlisted in the World War on June 11, 1917, and served in seven major battles as a private in Company C, 26th Infantry, before he was gassed near the end of the struggle.  As a result of his injury, he was confined at various times in veteran’s hospitals at Tuscaloosa and Washington, D. C.

Survivors include his wife, six children, three half-brothers and two half-sisters.
