Wife Of Owens Cross Roads Farmer Died At Family Home Thursday


Mrs. Kate E. Bird, 54, wife of E.C. Bird, Madison county farmer, died Thursday afternoon at 3:45 o’clock at the family home in Owens Cross Roads community after an illness. The funeral has been arranged for Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at the home with the Revs. J.G. Pebbles and Mr. Myrick of Decatur officiating. Burial will be in the Neil’s chapel cemetery, Laughlin-Service directing.

Surviving besides the husband are six daughters and four son. The daughters are Mrs. Inez Baker, Hazel Green; Mrs. Louis Guffey and Mrs. Ruth Martin, Owens Cross Roads; Mrs. Ora May Maynard, Portsmouth, Va; Misses Kathleen and Connie Bird, at home. The sons are Gussie Bird, Winfred, Philip and Lonnie Bird.

There are also a sister, Mrs. Joe Bird, of Owens Cross Roads, and two brothers, J.W. McPeters and R.H. McPeters.

Active pallbearers at the funeral will be Charles Rigsby, Eugene Aldrich, Claude Gossett, Ervin McElyea, Jimmy Ratliff and J.E. Hindman.

Selected to be honorary pallbearers are J.K. Drake, Bert Baker, Wilson Mann, Woods Ellett, Ollie Treece, Milas Buford, Robert Baker, Jr., and Abbie Ellett.

Mrs. Bird was a life-long member of the Church of God.
