John Friedman

Born in Rio Bonito at his parents home, now called East Biggs, Butte County, California.

Was a member and Deputy Grand Master of district 16 Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), a fraternal organization. Was also a Noble Grand Master of the same lodge.

This is quoted from an article in a local paper:
"Father and Son Take Wives at Reno Ceremony
Gridley, July 5--John Friedman and his father, Thomas Friedman, were married at a double wedding Tuesday, July 2. John claimed for his bride Miss Bessie Gibbs of Farley, N. M., while his father's bride was Mrs. Olga Ryan of Portola.
"The two couples were married in the court room by the district judge are Reno, Nev.
"The younger Freidmans (sic) are at home to their friends at 870 Kentucky Street, while the senior Friedmans are living at the Friedman ranch at Biggs."

One his application for a Social Security number, it states he worked for a J. E. Edison of Gridley, Butte County, California.

Joint Tenancy Deed dated January 13, 1966 recorded in book 1408, page 560 states:
"This indenture made the 13th day of December one thousand nine hundred and fifty six between Elvert Ketcheson and Mary J. Ketcheson, his wife, the parties of the first part, and John Friedman and Bessie Marie Friedman, his wife, the parties of the second part,
"Withnesseth: That the said parties of the first part, in consideration of the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000) dollars, lawful money of the United States of America, to them in hand paid by the said parties of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do by these presents grant, bargain, and sell unto the said parties of the second part, in joint tenancy and to the survivor of them, and to the heirs and assigns of such survivor forever, all that certain lot, piece of parcel of land situate in County of Butte, State of California and bounded and described as follows, to wit:
"The Westerly Ten (10) acres of Lot One (1) in Block Seven (7), as the same is designated and delineated on that certain map entitled "Rio Bonito Colony, Butte County, California, Cala. being part of Rancho Fernandez", which map was filed in the office of the County Recorder of the County of Butte, State of California, February 1, 1892, in Volume "5" of Maps at page 31.
"Subject, however, to a right of way to the Public, along and over the strip of land 25 feet in width, running along the entire north side of the above described premises, said trip making (together with a corresponding adjoining strip) on said North side, a portion of the Street or right-of-way to the Public.
"Together with the tenements, hereditaments, and oppurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining, and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof.
"To have and to hold the said premises, together with the oppurtenances, unto the said parties of the second part, as joint tenants, and not as tenants in common, with right of survivorship, and to the heirs and assigns of such survivor forever.

Friedman crossed out], Thomas Friedman, Jr., Anna Sixt, Joseph Friedman, Elizabeth Quintaine (sic), Frank Friedman, Martin Friedman, Katherine Ramos, and Frances Southard, also known as Francis Suthard, parties of the first part, do hereby Grant unto John Friedman, of Biggs, California, all that certain real property situate in the County of Butte, State of California, described as follows:
"Parcel one: Lot 11 in Block 5 of Rio Bonito Colony, as the same is laid down, numbered and designated on the Map thereof, filed as of record in the office of the County Recorder of the County of Butte, State of California, on the 1st day of February, 1892 in Volume 5 of Maps, at page 31, Excepting therefrom county roads.
