Message Board Post:
I am trying to connect my grt, grt, grt grandfather, Stephen Piatt with all the other Piatt's in Ohio. According to the 1820 census, he lived in Muskingum County, Ohio then...He was also in the 1812 war from Ohio. His daughter, Hannah Piatt, married William Thomas and they lived in Marion, Marion County, Ohio until her death. She is buried there....I think William was married to a Rebecca Piatt before he was married to Hannah and she died too.

Stephen Piatt fought in the War of 1812, as a Private in the 3rd Regiment (Cass'), Ohio Volunteers and Militia. Others in Cass' Regiment included Peter Piatt, John N. Piatt, Robert Piatt. I'm not yet sure what relation they were. Did Stephen's older brother John moved to Ohio before moving to Tennessee? Were there also brothers named Peter and Robert? More research needs to be done

Hannah, 21, OH (1829)
Mary A, 17, OH (1833)
Susan DORN, 39, OH (1811) [married daughter?]

Neighbors to this family were the families of Tunis and Patten. Tunis is a New Jersey name. Also in the same census in the household of Josiah Tunis was SARAH PIATTE, 34, OH (1816). We wonder if Sarah was also a daughter of Stephen and Mary.
Stephen's family was a large one as the 1840 census for Marion Co OH, Green Camp Twp, indicates a household of 10 individuals:
1840 Marion co OH, page 123
Green Camp Twp
STEPEN [sic] PIATT, 40-50

male 20-30
female 20-30

Neighbors are Tunis families, but next door to Stephen was:
ANDREW PIATT 20-30
female 20-30
female 0-5
Andrew was likely a son.

According to an article in THE ZANESVILLE SIGNAL (Zanesville, Ohio newspaper), December 11, 1949: "Historian T. W. Lewis in his biographical sketches has brought to light some interesting and unusual incidents in the lives of our citizens and the past of our city......THE PIATTS WERE OF QUAKER STOCK AND CAME FROM VIRGINIA."
Had brother Amos who came to Ohio with him from VA and settled in Muskingum Co. Also lived in Harrison Co (W)Va

Also in the 1870 household of Elizabeth Pyeatt is 18 year old William Pyeatt. He may be the second cousing of John, William and Jacob, the son of Samuel Miller Pyeatt.
