Listed in the 1830 Washington County, Arkansas Federal Census along with one female age 30 to 40, probably his wife Mary. No children are listed as residing with them and they were not listed as owning any slaves. He was also listed in the 1828 and1829 Arkansas Census."...Rev. John Carnahan, who was a South Carolina, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister and an immigrant to Tennessee in 1800. Elven years later he moved to Arkansas Post, and a year later went to Pulaski County. "Rev. John Carnahan, the grandfather of J. P. Carnahan, was a soldier of the Revolutionary War. He was a teamster in General Greene's army. A number of years after the Revolutionary War he became a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In 1813 he visited the families of Jacob and James Pyeatt at Crystal Hill, Arkansas. His home was then in Logan County, Kentucky. While visiting the Pyeatts, he preached the first Protestant sermon, administered the first communion service, and the first infant baptism in the the Arkansas valley.
