Greetings!
Don't you love those days when you open your mailbox and there it is! An
envelope you've been waiting for, in this case, from the New Jersey State
Dept of Health.

The death certificate for William MURPHY, my suspected great great uncle. AND
IT'S HIM!

And now I have his birthdate (27 Aug 1851) and death date (19 Nov 1928)
and I know his late wife's maiden name (Sarah L STILLWELL)

And I see that my grandmother, Sarah DECKER, gave the info and signed.
William's father is listed as "Patrick MURPHY" and his mother is "Mary
HOLROYDE." Those names appear on his sister's death certificate, too, five
years earlier. Only my grandmother stated that both were born in the US,
while Sarah MURPHY SHUTPELL's certificate says Ireland and England!

And when Sarah MURPHY was filling out her marriage certificate in 1868, she
gave her father's name as "Francis MURPHY" and her mother's as "Mary ROWEL."
And it's Francis on the 1850 and 1855 censuses. Ireland and England, too.

So I know that my grandmother was wrong when she gave that info.

But I have a question for others familiar with New Jersey certificates. The
copy I received contains a blank rectangle on the middle of the right side
roughly 4x2 inches. What's up with that? Why would they do this and what info
might be with held? Has anyone else had this happen?

A second question: William MURPHY's address was
15 W 681 St. Bayonne

Any thoughts on this street??
Here's hoping you get a happy envelope, too!
Cheers!
