Eustacchio Sicchia Steve Steve

The name Steve was given to the county clerk by his daughter Nellie when she
applied to marry Angelo Manganello. At aunt Clara's home on 26 August 1994
Clara showed me a letter dated Feb 20, 1929, that had been signed by E. Sicchia as"Genitore". Uncle Dom said this was "Parent". Clara said in Nellie's handwriting that this was the last letter from her father as he died March 18,1929. It appears the first name is Eustacchio. Shown to be residing at 236 Richardson Street in Brooklyn, NY. This was extracted from the 1 June 1900 census (ED 277, sheet 1 Kings County NYC, Borough of Brooklyn) which also showed him to be born in May 1848 and to be 52 years old. The census indicated he was a shoemaker and came to the US in 1892. It also indicated he had been married eight years. Correlating all of this, 1892 was a busy year because he was married, had a child (Nazarena) and came to the US all in the same year. The 1900 census indicates he was a shoemaker. Date of this 1900 census is 1 Jun 1900. When I found the ship arrival of his wife and two daughters, Eustacchio was not aboard. They arrived 31 Dec 1894. His naturalization record says he arrived in Dec 1892.
Time Line: 25 Nov 1892-Nazarena is born
8 Apr 1893-Arrived on SS Neustria (Scranton Imm says 24 April 1993)
31 Dec 1894-Family arrives in New York
26 May 1898-249 Frost-Brooklyn-Naturalized
1 Jun 1900 236 Richardson-Brooklyn
Birth dates: 16 April 1849, May 1848, 7 Jun 1859

ARRIVAL: On a search of the web site ellisislandrecords.org on 11 June 2001 found EUSTACHIO SICCHIA travelling aboard the SS NEUSTRIA aiirving from Naples on 8 Feb 1893. He was 34 (born 1859)

Maria Grazia Marulli Nona (Mary) Nona (Mary)

Lived with my grandma Nellie. Her last name was obtained from Nellie's
marriage application. Aunt Rose said that Nona, her grandmother, did not like her father. This may be related to his prison term. Card from her funeral said Mrs. Marie Sichia. She died at 408 Montgomery Ave, West Pittston. Church was Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. Birthplace extracted from a note at Aunt Clara's. Date of birth is a
problem. The 1 June 1900 census shows Mary, wife of Steve, living at 236 Richardson Street, NYC, Kings County, Borough of Brooklyn (ED 277, Sheet 1).
The date of birth shown was May 1853 (47 yrs old). If born in 1866 she would
have been 34.

The ship arrival record of the SS BURGUNDIA showsa Maria MARSULLI arriving on 31 Dec 1894, she was 42 yo (born in 1852) and she was travelling with Carmela SICCHIA (F-11 yo) and NAZARENA SICCHIA (F-2 yo)
Carmela would have been born in 1883 and Nazarena in 1892. This was found on the ellisislandrecords.org website on June 6, 2001.

Barbary Bruce

David H. Craig died around 1822 and Barbary Craig's name shows up on the Monroe County, Ohio tax records as owning property in 1824, 1825 and 1826. Sometime around 1827, Barbary (or Barbara has some of the records show) married James Piatt, a widower. There are few Monroe County, Ohio court records showing a 1829 lawsuit to settle David H. Craig's estate (Barbary Piatt, formerly Barbara Craig vs. Enoch Craig,et al.); a transfer of land in 1843 to James H. Craig; and a request in 1827 by David Craig to choose James Piatt as his guardian.
Barbary's maiden name is believed to be BRUCE based upon her inclusion in a settlement of a will in Monroe County, Ohio during the march term 1834. This will included the names Barbara Piatt (the first name listed), Thomas Bruce, Eleanor Bruce, Elizabeth Bruce, Catherine Bruce (widow), John Bruce, Stephen Bruce, Joshua Bruce, Samuel Bruce, and Washington Bruce. The will also included the following husbands and wives, with the wives names presumed to be Bruce: Samuel Truax and Lydia; Jacob Mervin and Rebecca; George Custard and Nancy; William D. Patton and Margeret Ann.
