A few Burials and possible
burials at Pine Creek Cemetery or those whom died at Pine Creek
Country Items 31/5/1904
Frank Paterson, one of the
wandering class so often met with n the Territory, and well known on all the
mining fields here, has found a last resting place in Pine Creek
cemetery. He was prospecting in the vicinity of
the kindness of Mrs Elliott who
heard of his condition and gave him every attention. The extremely cold weather
we have been having of late, however, was too much for
him. Pneumonia supervened and he died after being unconscious for three
days.

Death of Mr Schunke
The passing away at Pine Creek on Thursday afternoon of H E Schunke makes another gap in the
rapidly diminishing band of early day Territory pioneers.
The news of the loss of this genial old resident will be received with
general regret. The late Mr Schunke arrived from
days-some where in the 70’s or 80’s. At that time mining was in full
swing at Pine Creek and the adjacent fields and hopes ran high. In that inland
town, after some
vicissitudes, the deceased made his permanent home, and there for many
years he played a leading and energetic part as blacksmith and wheelwright and
general
storekeeper &c. He possessed an intimate knowledge of the many
mining ventures in Pine Creek and district and up to the last he was optimistic
as to the great future
awaiting that field when capital improved up to date methods and sane
management are given a fair spin in combination in the development of its rich
gold reefs and other
potential mineral wealth. General sympathy will be felt for Mrs Schunke who played a prominent part
in Red Cross work and other patriotic activities during the war and
has always taken a lively and helpful interest in the social life of
Pine Creek. A large number of residents attended the funeral of the deceased at
the Pine Creek cemetery,
the funeral service in the absence of a minister, being conducted by M C Turner.
Obituary – Edward Dowling Jnr.
We regret to report the death of Edward
Dowling, Jnr, son of Mr & Mrs
Dowling of Pine Creek. The boy who was 17 years of age had been ailing for some
time
with fever and was brought down to the hospital on Saturdays train. Dr Cook went up to
brought her in an hour earlier than usual, in the hope that their
efforts would help to save the boys life but their efforts were in vain for he
died at 7am on the Sunday
morning. The body was taken to Pine Creek on Sunday night and buried
there on the Monday morning. To the parents and relatives of the lad the Times
extends its
deepest sympathy.
