Information for Parties desiring to register Births, deaths and Marriages

General Registry Office, Adelaide, October 3, 1855

 

Act No 13. of 5th Victoria requires that births, deaths and marriages be registered in the Districts in which these events occur.

The occupiers of houses in which deaths occur, the Coroner or District Constable in the case of bodies found, are required to

register within ten days from the death, or finding of the body, under a penalty not exceeding ten pounds.

 

Parents, or occupiers of houses in which births take place, are required to register the same within forty two days, under a

penalty not exceeding ten pounds.

Parents, guardians, or persons present at births, may register the same after forty two days, by paying a fee of ten shillings

and sixpence, and making declaration of particulars before the Deputy Registrar of the District.

Registration of births is prohibited after the expiration of six months, unless in the case of births on the seas.

 

Any Officer registering, or any person who shall cause to be registered, any birth contrary to the instructions of the said Act,

is subject to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds.
