Note on Husband: Ralph + TOMPKINS

Came from Wendover, Buckinghamshire to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 on the Truelove. (On Sept. 19, 1635, "husbandman Ralph Tomkins," aged 50, uxor Kat[herine} Tomkins." aged 58, "Elizabeth Tomkins," aged 18, "Marie Tomkins," aged 14, & "Samuel Tomkins," aged 22, were enrolled at London as passengers for New England on the Truelove. They first settled at Dorchester MA & moved to Salem by 1642.

He was born about 1585, according to the passenger list. But on 12 Aug 1569, a "Raffe Tompkyns the son of John Tompkyns" was baptized at Edlesborough. If this is our passenger, then he is 7 yrs older (rather than 8 yrs younger) than his wife.

He married (1) 6 Nov 1608 in Wendover, Buckinghamshire, Katherine Foster, daughter of Peter Foster.

He married (2) by an unknown date, ____ ____. who was somehow a "sister" of Samuel Aburne.

He died by 12 Nov 1666 (date of inventory).

There is no proof who his father was.
