KNIGHT, Robert, Mr., merchant, York, before 1643, [see testimony and letter in Mass Arch 38B, 48-55]. Took oath of allegiance to Mass govt 22 Nov 1652. Had letter of credit from Wrath Bathorne to his brother, Mr. Roger Bathorne, dated at Malago, 9 April 1647, for his occasions in New England or Newfoundland. [A.}He deposed 7 Dec. 1658 ae.abt. 71 yrs, and again 6 July 1671 ae. 86, as to what he heard Mr. Tho. Gerges say before "he went for England,"--which is known to have been in 1643.[York De.I.] Gave land to his grandson John Redman, Jr. 18 Feb. 1666. his daughter Joanna m.Rowland Young: he gave land to grandson R.Y., Jr. 12 Aug. 1673, deed witnessed by the boy's sister Mary, who deposed as Mary Mowlton 24 June 1678. He died between 23 June the date of his will, and 24 Aug. 1676, when it was proved; beq. his "small estate" to his son Richard Knight, living in Boston.[Me Wills, 56 and York De III]

FROM History of York by Banks:...The last Will and Testament of Robert Knight of Yorke/ Concerning the small estate left by the providence of god unto me, I doe bequeath & dispose of as followeth/ Imprs:fie Acres of Marsh bounded west and by south, on the one side, West & by North on the other side, upland butting on the on Thomas Beeson & soe back unto the swampe untill it come to a parcel of land of Mr. Samll Mauericks, with an house and barn on the syd Land, of Robert Knights, also two cows & a bull all wch as above expressed, also whatsoever else shall be found to mee belonging, on or in the sayd house land or barne, I do whooley & for ever bequeath, unto my son Richd Knight liuveing in Boston, and to his Assignes for ever/ In witness of all which as above written, I have here unto set my hand & seale this 23d day of June 1676--The marke of Robert X Knight (Locus)(Sigilli) Owned & Delivered in the Presence of: Nicholas Willmott/his marke X John Tucker William Bartholomew

 

page 162: SAMUEL ADAMS...probably came from came from Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire, where his name with Robert Knight, Mary Topp/Tapp and her daughter Jane (all names later in York), are found in the parish records....

Robert Knight (b. 1586) Robert Knight was 72 in 1658, 86 in 1671. Bought Robert Blaisdell’s house and lands in 1642, and had town grants in 1648 and 1658. Took oath of allegiance 1652. In 1653 Robert Knight deeded to Thomas Marston of Hampton a house and a lot, "Formal Robert Marston’s now mine.", and 35 acres of marsh land and upland granted Mr. Rishworth by the town of Hampton and in 1666/7 he deeded 7 acres of land in Hampton, bought of Rishworth, to his grandson, John Redman Jr. In 1673 Robert deeded land to his grandson, Rowland Young. Will-executed 23 June- 24 August 1676, in Boston where Robert was living with his son.
