Quaker Research Notes
Upper Monthly Meeting – established 1800,
discontinued 1832
Source: Hinshaw, William Wade. Encyclopedia of
American Quaker Genealogy, Volume 6, Ann Arbor: Edwards Bros., 1938-.
Spreadsheet compiled by: Deanna Barton; February 26, 2001.
This meeting
was also called Burley Monthly Meeting, & Gravelly Run Monthly Meeting.
Upper
Monthly Meeting was composed of all Friends and congregations in the counties
of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Brunswick and Mecklenburg. The pillars of the infant organization were
the families of BOTT, FOWLER, LADD, HUNNICUTT, PEEBLES, BINFORD,
CHAPPELL, SEARS, BUTLER, and NIXON, all of whom had been members of the Society
of Friends from the earliest days of the Virginia colony.
Note: The abbreviation “co”
stands for chosen overseer but I have no idea what the abbreviation “efms”
stands for.
