Hoodenpyle, age 89, of Springfield, Mo., passed peacefully at 1 p.m. Thursday, in St. John's Mercy Villa in Springfield, with Aileen by his side, after a long illness. James was born on June 13, 1919, in Aldrich, Mo., the son of Earl Dezearn Hoodenpyle and Reva Florance (Bradford) Hoodenpyle. After the death of his mother in 1928, he was raised by his great-aunts, Willa Golden and Georgia Apperson, at their farm in Brighton, Mo. He was a graduate of Morrisville High School in 1938, and after graduation he went to Kansas City and worked with his Dad, until World War II. At the end of World War II, he returned to Kansas City where he met Aileen and they were married in 1947. In 1950, during the Korean Conflict, James was recalled into the U.S. Air Force. After serving almost 30 years, he and Aileen retired to Springfield, Mo. Upon moving to Springfield, he started Hoodenpyle Construction. For about 10 years he contracted and built several custom homes in the Springfield area. One of his greatest pleasures was maintaining and working on the farm in Brighton, Mo., where he grew up. For more than 20 years, he and Aileen enjoyed spending the winter months in Pharr, Texas. James was preceded in death by his parents; two younger brothers, Robert and William; half-brother, David; and half-sister Peggy. Surviving is his wife, Aileen Hoodenpyle of Springfield; his son, James B. Hoodenpyle and wife, Pam of Pleasant Hope, Mo.; his daughter, Sandra K. Karm and husband, Johnny of Victoria, Texas; a sister, Christina Graham and husband, Harlan of Brighton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Henze of Columbia, Mo., James B. Hoodenpyle III of Springfield, Mo., Bernice Sahy of Bemant, Ill., and John Sahy of Mohamet, Ill.; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at 3:30 p.m., in Slagle Cemetery, south of Bolivar, with Bro. Paul McKnight officiating. Burial will be under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. Friends may call in the Butler Chapel after 3 p.m. Saturday, and after 12 p.m. Sunday. Bob was born on September 6, 1923 in Kansas City and was raised by his two great-aunts Georgia and Golda Apperson, along with his two brothers and sister on a farm in Morrisville, Missouri. He served in World War II as a Pharmacist's Mate in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Salamaua. On November 8, 1949, Robert married Betty Jean Brown and the couple started Superior Frame Company, a furniture frame manufacturing business located in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple had two daughters, Lori Hoodenpyle of Prairie Village, Kansas and Leslie Polhemus of San Francisco, California. In addition to his wife and two daughters, Bob is survived by his son-in-law Richard Polhemus and two granddaughters, Kelsey and Skylar Polhemus. Bob loved to travel and he and his wife Betty also owned and operated Donacyn Travel and Cruise Center for more than thirty years. Bob also loved golf, tennis and duplicate bridge where he was a Life Master, winning both regional and national bridge tournaments. Bob loved life and being with people and was blessed to continue to live fully, in spite of Parkinson's disease, until his death. Until recently, Bob was able to enjoy bridge, as well as Chief's football and parties, outings and activities at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living. On Sunday, January 11, 2009, a reception in Bob's honor will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Kenilworth Clubhouse at 4120 W. 94th Terrace in Prairie Village. Private family burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road. Since Bob loved kids, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired at 3101 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri.

The babies are all in good health and came home from the Akron Children's Hospital on June 7. The babies, who were born after 33 weeks, weighed 2.12 lb., 3.14 lb., 3.6 lb., and 4 lb. When they were released from the hospital, they were all in good condition and weighed more than 5 pounds each.
According to Clark, the people in their community have all helped out with donations and baby items. Members of Christ the King Lutheran Church, where the DeZarns are members, held a car wash and bake sale to raise money for the family.

He had an easygoing personality and a kind soul coupled with a wicked sense of humor. Travis' jersey number 22, was retired by the Pali High Lacrosse team. Travis was born October 17, 1989, in Beverly Hills to Tim and Gail Lucas deZarn. He lost his birth mother as an infant. Raised by Tim and Janine, both actors, in Los Angeles, Travis participated in theatre productions throughout the LA area. His friends have created a page on Facebook: Rest In Peace Travis deZarn. Hundreds of friends and acquaintances have posted stories of special times on the webpage. The deZarn family wants to thank the community of people who knew and love Travis for the tremendous outpouring of love and support.
