McGarvie in the 1881 British Census

About 25% of the 300 McGarvies were located in Lanarkshire. The map of McGarvies in Lanarkshire shows that the Lanarkshire McGarvies were centered in the area around Glasgow - as were the surnames Garvie and Jarvie. Another quarter of the McGarvies were just to the west in Ayrshire. Most of the Ayrshire McGarvies were in the parish of Maybole.

Over half of the 240 McGarvas were in also in Ayrshire. The map of McGarvas in Ayrshire shows that they were mostly in the parishes of Dailly and Girvan.

The map below shows that the McGarveys in Britain were probably a mixture of immigrant Irish McGarveys in Lancashire, and what may be spelling variants of the Scottish McGarvie in Lanarkshire.
