Garveys in the Armagh Poorhouse Register 1842-1848


This is a transcription of the Garvey entries from LDS microfilm FHL#259154 - The Indoor Relief Register of the Armagh Union Workhouse 1842-1848. This covers the worst period of The Famine. Each of the entries is a heart-wrenching story in itself.

Among the most poignant is the family of Christopher and Jane Garvey. They entered the poorhouse in May 1847. Over the next month the children died one by one - until there was only one left. Then a month later the mother died. The next day the father and the last remaining boy checked out...
