Bob,

That sounds terrific. Those guys, I remember well, were larger than life for me. I never met Mr. Hulman but was around several times when Mr. Quinn was with hime (as you probably know, Joe Quinn worked for him, not just at the speedway but he ran TH Gas - which was Hulman's too). I was also over there in '53 when Bill Vukovich had his accident on the backstretch. It was really awful.

It's really funny talking about this stuff. I haven't seen anyone in 40 years who remembered or cared.

Bob,

I used to get back there (in the garage area at Indy) too. A really big thrill. I remember sitting there - as quiet as a mouse - in
Tony Bettenhausen's garage/bay listing to the big folks talk. I got Pit and Gasoline Alley passes for many years courtesy of Joe
Quinn (Pam and Jay's father), who among other things was Safety Director at the Speedway for many years.

I had the ultimate job for a while, if your a race fan. I flew co-pilot on Tony Hulman's airplane for a short time.  We used to haul Rutherford and Foyt around. Before I could really take advantage of the situation, I got a job with the airline. I have often dreamed about what kind of priveleges I might have had at the Brickyard as one of Tony's pilots.
