This website is a compilation of 18th to early 20th century resources, provided to assist amateur genealogists with their family history research in Donegal It is the work of myself and other researchers. If you would like to contribute any records to this website, it would be very much appreciated!
There are now more than 3000 pages pages of transcriptions online, with more to come! as well as general indexes to BDM, census or land records, where full or partial transcriptions have been compiled.
There are also maps, photographs and indexes to
all available records and published works. but once you understand these available records, you can put together a good family history. Donegal records are limited however - civil registration didn't start until 1864 for the general population, church registers in the mid 1800s, though a lucky few start earlier; and very few 19th century census exist; the earliest universally available is 1901.
If there are any records which you believe are under copyright, or have been reproduced here without permissions/the correct acknowledgements, please contact me with the details of the file.
This website is totally FREE to access and is intended to be used by amateur genealogists researching their Donegal roots. If you would like to copy sections of any records for your family history, please advise the submitter of the record/s and request permission to do so.
Copying of anything contained within this website for commercial purposes is not permitted The copying & selling of any of these records for your own profit is expressly forbidden (it is very easy to find out who you are!)
Please note that I cannot undertake research for anyone, even if I'd like to! Aside from this research being much more enjoyable & satisfying if you do it yourself, the more time I spend on queries, the less time I have to transcribe and add records to this website..........though, if you're REALLY stuck, I will often see what I can do to point you in the right direction!
Everything you need is in the links below & contained within this website, especially in the How To section under General
