I am searching for information on Winslow Pope's (b.1770) ancestors. I have a significant amount of information on some of his descendents and am happy to share what I have. All I know about Winslow was his year of birth, that he was married to Polly Wheelock and that some/most of their descendents lived and continue to live in Quebec's Eastern Townships. My mother's maiden name was Morris. Her father's mother's maiden name was Downs. I'm attempting to find out what her paternal greatgrandmother's maiden name was. I believe it was either Pope or Wells as she has relatives with both names (coincidently, her grandmother's mother's maiden name of Popwell). The Pope family I am researching came to KY from NC sometime in the late 1800's. James L. Pope with wife, etc show on the 1880 Lawrence Co census. Prior to this I can find nothing. I think that James father was George. I have found a lot of them, but nothing to support one being my family line.

I am trying to find details on my great grandfather, John W. (Jack) Pope. He married my great-grandmother, Mary A. Bartlett in August, 1888. They subsequently had my grandmother, Ida Belle Pope in February, 1890. During this time, my great grandfather was "fooling around" with my great grandmother's niece, Fanny Pope, born in 1872 in Cherokee County, Ala. My great grandmother, Mary Barlett Pope, died in childbirth in July, 1892 along with a baby boy. About a year later, Fanny Bartlett had Maude Pope, July 1893 and in June, 1895, Harrison Pope was born to the couple. In Dec. 1897, Shelly Pope was born. I have only recently found out that a Herbert Pope was born about June 1889, just a few months before my grandmother, Ida Belle Pope. I have also learned that Fanny Bartlett shows up in the 1910 census married to J.W. Hailey, with another baby Pope showing up as being 3 months old. I think his name may have been Harmon. This is the only name I cannot verify. They are all living in Brownwood, TX in 1910, except for Maude is probably married by now. Herbert also is living in Comanche County, TX, but is single. I have had absolutely no success finding my great grandfather or information on him, such as date of birth, date of death, place of burial or any info on his family. I would like to receive any information on him that is available. I always heard he left Alabama and went to Texas, but he sure has a lot of kids born in Alabama for about 25 years on and off. My G grandfather's name was Bryant Hall Pope (1898-1987) and he was married to Nellie May (Bryant) Pope. I don't know if that helps anybody but there you go. As for my question I'm looking for my G G G grandfathers name. Nobody knows his name, where he was born, or where he died. Do you have a William Johnson Pope and a Justus Pope that lived in the Silver Creek area in late 1850's? William was a United Brethen Minister. First wife was Elizabeth Orcutt. Second wife was Jane Frances Harrington. They were married 2 Feb 1854 in Cass Co, MI. William died 8 Dec 1890 and may be buried in Searle Ridge, DePue, Il. Hi I am Iona Russell (nee Pope) and I was born in Chennai (Madras)on 15th October 1954. I am looking for my great grandfather and my grandfther - Popes. My great grandfather was Frederick Attwell Pope or Attwell Frederick Pope and he was born in the year 1877 but I do not know where he died in Madras in the year 1923 at theage of 46 he was employed in the M & S.M.Railway In South India. He married a girl by the name of Florence maiden name not known - she was born in 1885 - she died in 1916 at the age of 31yrs during childbirth. My grandfather Lucius Charles Pope born 14.12.1900 died in 1957. He married a lady by the name of Gladys Beatrice Knight. My father Walter Charles Lushington Pope born 15th March 1921 died 18th January 1978. He married a lady by the name of Marion Merlyn Rosalin Davitt b.27.11.191 d. 10.082006. Hi, My name is Evelyn Annette Parkinson Bell. My mother was Melba Biggs Parkinson, her mother was Stella Williams Biggs and her mother was Maggie May Pope Williams.
