Aft er his death his widow, Silence continued drawing the pension.He bought la nd of William Curtis in 1784, and erected a house in that pa rt of Stought on now in the bounds of Avon, situated quite near his wifes f ather's far m. In 1806 he rebuilt with an excellent house, which is standi ng now (190 6), owned and occupied by his grandson Ira.
He was tax collector of Stoughton in 1788,89,90,91.In settling Mather's es tate, the following allowance was made to the wido w: "That owing to the s tate of the family under her care and circumstanc es of the deceased, s he be allowed $125 and her own apparel." (It was ve ry kind of the adminis trator to recommend this allowance to the widow to h ave her own "appare l" to wear!).20 July 1792 he bought Marsh land in Quincy of Samuel Wales f or L30, "it b eing the whole of a plate of marsh thatch bank & Muddy Cre ek & hereto belo nging des-cended to sd Sam. Wales from his Dis father Mos es X Wales."
