He married Thomasine unknown in Wethersfield, Hartford County,Connecticut, USA. Thomasine was born about 1591. William Belden and Thomasine unknown had the following children: 20 i. Samuel9 Belding was born, on July 20, 1647. + 21 ii. Daniel Belding was born on November 20, 1648. 22 iii. John Belding was born, on January 9, 1650. 23 iv. Susanna Belding was born, on November 5, 1652. 24 v. Mary Belding was born, on February 2, 1653. 25 vi. Nathaniel Belding was born, on November 13, 1654. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ William Belden's will, dated 27 Mar 1655, may be found in Hartford CountyProbate Records, in the Particular Court for the years 1650-1663, volumeII, on pages 69 and 70. The inventory was taken the 1st of June in thesame year (File No. 440) by Joh n Deming, Samuel Smith and NathanielDickenson, amounting to 142-06-08 pounds. The will named his wife,Commisin, and six children; and the spelling of his name was writtenBeldin. No land records have been discovered for him in Wethersfield, but he ismentioned as being paid one pound 12 shilling under date of 1 Jan 1648;and on the 2 May 1648, he was paid about two pounds 10 shillings "for 900ft of boards and for the hingein g for the Meetinghouse seats". The Reverend C. M. By far the greater part of the red refugees, however, joined theCanadian tribes. Here Catholicism gained a firm hold on childlikeimaginations never captured by the austerites of Puritanism.... TheJesuits, moreover, told the Indian that th e killing of heretics wouldassure his soul a place in Paradise, and the French military offered himimmediate mundane reward for prisoners taken after war between France andEngland. Only one had foreseen this when, soon after the might of the River tribeshad been broken at Peskeompscut, a few of the hardest Deerfielders cameback to raise new cabins on their blackened cellar holes. Even before thefresh los weathered, the ol d dread war whoop rent the autumn woodlands,and redskins leading a party o frenchmen burst upon the village, capturedmost of the people, and carried them into th forest where, inconsternation, they saw many of their Hatfield neighbors tied to thet rees. Then began the fist of those weary marches up the River to bondagetaken by River folk during the next eighty years. In this party weretwelve children not one over eight years old. (see note below) Nightafter night they were spread-eagle d on the ground and there staked out bythongs on wrists and ankle- a torture in itself - only to be forced torise morning for the continued march up the River and it's tributaryuntil in January all, except two weaklings murdered enroute, at leasta rrived in Canada.
