| From Charlie Baez, (A responce to daughters, Pat
and Jerry) I knew 'Willie' he used to pal around with Joe McCullum in a survey team. I knew 'Willie' because of associations with Joe, and myself. Since I was a lineman I came in contact with both of them quite often and I used to hang out with Joe McCullum. Other than that I don't know what I can tell you because I lost contact when the 'point system' separated those who went home and those who stayed. We called them 'Willie and Joe' because they were always together and reminded us of the Willie and Joe characters in the Stars and Stripes cartoons. Wishing you well in the New Year....is your father still living? Feel free to contact me and if I can be of any assistance I will be happy to help. I live in Victoria, Texas. Charles M. Baez PS Because of my Spanish heritage they used to call me "Spic" and in those days everyone seemed to have a nickname. |

Capo. Dad is getting "chillblains" to quote him from seeing all these names (of the 736th FABn) and hoping they are still on this earth. Especially Des Williamson, whose leg he treated at Basse Hamm on Nov. 20th 1944, after Des, Capt. Ball, Vic Czebator, Gerry Manning were hit by a landmine just ahead of Dad's jeep. We have diaries, letters, photos, etc. and want to come to the reunion this year for sure and get in touch with Des and others on the list ASAP. |
