Abigail Irene Edgerton, daughter of Whiting and Huldah (Benton) Edgerton.
born:
|
April 8, 1809; Smithville, Chenango Co., NY.
|
William Parker
Children:
- Sophronia E.
According to family records,
Abigail Irene Edgerton married William Parker and “moved west” (possibly to Wisconsin), after
which there was no further word from her.
Abigail had already died by February 16, 1867, at which time the final
settlement of Whiting’s estate included a bequest to, “Sophronia E. Carpenter
a child of Abigail I. Parker, deceased, who was a daughter of the said
deceased, residing in Wisconsin.”
The Latter Day Saints’
International Genealogical Index references a Sophronia Parker who married
David Carpenter in Nelson, Madison County, New York in 1847. This may have been the daughter of William
and Abigail (Edgerton) Parker who was mentioned in the estate of Whiting
Edgerton. There were three “William
Parkers” recorded in the 1850 Federal Census of Madison County – one in Eaton
(pg. 341), one in Lenox (pg. 217), and one in Madison (pg. 14). At the time of the 1860 Federal Census,
David and Sophronia Carpenter were enumerated in Darlington, Lafayette County, Wisconsin
(pg. 347; dwelling #340; family #340; enum. July 25, 1860); they were aged 42
and 34 respectively (both b. in New
York) and had two daughter, Sarah and Cora.
