Allton L. Edgerton, of Hartford, Connecticut, enlisted as a private on September 20, 1862 and served in the 22nd Connecticut Infantry Regiment (Company D).  He died of disease at Miner’s Hill, Virginia on January 6 or 7, 1863 – service records say the 6th, while his gravestone says the 7th (see Adjutant General, Connecticut: Record of Service of Men during War of Rebellion; Case, Lockwood & Brainard, Hartford, Connecticut, 1889).

 

Mary J. Edgerton, widow of Alton L. Edgerton, applied for a Civil War Pension on April 14, 1868.  According to the pension application, Alton had served in Company D, 22nd Regiment, Connecticut Infantry (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #17118, Certificate #14345).

 

There is no further record of Allton’s widow, Mary J. Edgerton, nor of any children born to the couple.
