Almira Edgerton, daughter of Ezekiel and Lucy (Fales) Edgerton.

Almira Edgerton was not the “Miss Amelia Edgerton” who died October 23, 1826, aged 21 years and was buried in the Ezekiel Edgerton plot at Bozrah Cemetery, as reported in the History of the Town of Hawley (Louise Hale Johnson; Mystic Conn.: Charter Oak House; 1953; pg. 24) and in Joseph Edgerton of Norwich, CT and his Descendants (David Dumas; East Greenwich, Rhode Island: privately published; 1982). Almira Edgerton was still alive as of 1850, when she was residing with her younger sister, Anna (Edgerton) Wheeler, wife of Jonathan Wheeler in Royalton, Ohio. The household of Jonathan Wheeler was recorded in the 1850 Federal Census of Royalton, Cuyahoga County, Ohio (pg. 152; dwelling #2784; family #2952; enum. September 10, 1850), and included “Almira Edgerton, aged 47, born in Massachusetts”. Almira was enumerated again in Jonathan and Anna’s household in the 1860 Federal Census of Sumner, Buchanan County, Iowa.

Almira (aka. “Mira”) Edgerton died on January 19, 1862 – presumably at North Royalton, Ohio). She was buried at the North Royalton Cemetery beside her younger brother David Edgerton. Her gravestone there was inscribed with the following epitaph:

Aged 59 Yrs.

The aforementioned “Amelia Edgerton” buried at Bozrah Cemetery was actually Aurelia Edgerton, daughter of Ezekiel’s younger brother, Asa Edgerton.
