The following obituary for Mrs. Amy (Edgerton)
Carpenter Gekeler was published in the Flint Journal on Monday, June
19, 1950 (pg. 20, transcript courtesy of Flora McRae of Livonia, Michigan):
“GEKELER – Amy E. Gekeler, 947 Pettibone St., age 87, died
Saturday, June 17, 1950, at the residence.
Funeral service will be held 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 20, 1950, from
the Colonial Chapel, Reigle Funeral home, 2417 S. Saginaw St., Rev. C.F.
Edgerton of Bancroft officiating, assisted by Rev. Eli Richard, and Rev. L.W.
Surbrook. Burial in Flint memorial Park. Body will be at this residence, 947 Pettibone St.,
until noon Tuesday, then will be taken to the Reigle Funeral home for
services. She was born in Allentown, Mich., Jan.
13, 1863, and lived in Flint
since 1919. She was a member of Lincoln Park Methodist Church. Surviving are: Son, Floyd Carpenter of Flint; 2 daughters,
Mrs. Helen Carl and Miss Edith Carpenter, both of Flint; 9 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; 2 stepsons, Frank Gekeler of Flint, Herbert Gekeler of
Caro; stepdaughter, Mrs. Orrie Severance of Flint; 5 step-grandchildren; 8
step-great-grandchildren.”
