Edgerton was recorded in the 1810 Federal Census
of Windham, 1 male “of 26 and under 45” (Andrew); 1 male “of 10 and under 16” (son Edward); 1 female “of 26 and under 45” (wife Ann); 1 female “of 10 and under 16” (daughter Mary Ann); and, 1 female “under 10 years of age” (daughter Abby). Andrew Edgerton was mentioned in the will of Zephaniah Swift of Windham (dated August 24, 1823) in reference to a house he had sold to Mr. Swift; that is, “…and of my home farm including the land at Chestnut hill and the land adjoining the House I purchased of Andrew Edgerton…” (Windham Probate, Vol. 188, p. 18). According to the Abbe-Abbey
Genealogy (Cleveland Abbe; The Tuttle, Morehouse & Taylor Co., Conn.,
1916; pg. 73), Andrew and Ann (Webb) Edgerton later settled in Michigan;
however, several Connecticut Newspapers reported the death of “Andrew
Edgerton of Windham” in April or May of 1813 (see The Windham Herald,
4/29/1813; Connecticut Mirror, 5/10/1813; Connecticut Courant,
5/11/1813). According to the death notice
published in the Connecticut Courant
on Tuesday, May 11, 1813, “Mr. Andrew Edgerton, late of Windham, in
this State” had died at Following Andrew’s death,
his widow, Nancy, removed with their children to “Nancy Edgerton” was recorded as a head of household in the 1820 Federal Census of Mexico, Oswego County, New York (pg. 33). The enumeration of her household included: 1 female “of 45 years and upwards” (Ann); and, 1 male “of 26 and under 45” (son Edward). Mrs. Nancy Edgerton later
removed west with her son, Edward, to Original Source Documents: 1800
